NEWSLETTER
SAN ANTONIO CHAPTER 99s
September 2003

Hi Everyone!

You will notice in the Minutes and new Schedule of Events that we are planning a fun year! So put the dates on your calendar and hopefully you will make the 99s functions.

Barbara and Jack are hosting the Summer Social (picnic) at their beautiful place - you will find the directions elsewhere in this newsletter. Our e-mail group has been sent the directions in a separate e-mail. It's Sunday, September 7. Plan to arrive at 11 AM. We always have a great time and it's nice to get together just to socialize. The barbeque dinner (including ice tea) will be catered and Winnie and Lena will pick it up. Barbara is furnishing the dessert, so all you have to bring is yourself, family and friends. Please do call Winnie (210-496-7612) and let her know how many are coming in your group. (Of course, if you want beer or wine, it's BYOB.)

Put the Christmas Party on your calendar - December 13 at 4:00. It will be held at Sherry and Hugh Walker's home. Sherry and Nancy thought we'd better start early so you can find the house in daylight - it might be difficult to find in the dark if you haven't been there. Dinner will be about 6 PM, so we'll have plenty of time for a wine and cheese gathering beforehand. Since dinner will be covered-dish/pot luck, Sherry will see that the food is organized into catagories and will coordinate as you call in your RSVP. More details later.

Gale (Tseu) Coconaur has met a delightful gentleman who is a retired airline pilot and will be happy to visit with us sometime. Something else to look forward to. Really appreciate Gale supporting us even though she can't participate as she once did.

Nancy has been really encouraging us to attend Section Meetings. The next one is October 12-15 in Tulsa - hope we can get a nice size group together to go. Early registration has been extended to September 10, so send yours in now for $75. The registration form and information is available on the South Central Section website at www.scs99s.org. If you do not have access, please let Nancy or me know, and we will mail you the material. It will also be available in the "Approach" but sometimes that periodical gets delayed. I was surprised to see that many of our members weren't aware that all 99s meetings (Section, International, etc.) are tax-deductible. So plan to go, have a great time, get in on the business first-hand and put all the expenses on your Schedule A at tax time!!

We have a new member! Remember Michelle Achorn? She flies for Federal Express and spoke to us during one of our meetings. Barbara Faulk will be sending her a Yearbook and she has been in our e-mail group, receiving newsletters and my other rhetorics. Welcome, Michelle! So glad to have you with us! Please add her information to your directory. 117 Majestic Oaks Dr., Boerne, TX 78006. (h) 830-537-5552. E-mail nightcargo@yahoo.com.

Sadly, we have lost a member - Charlotte Lynch did not renew. Her responsibilities changed after the joined the 99s and she could no longer participate. Hopefully, someday she will be able to join us again. Even though she will not be on our membership roster, I will continue e-mailing the newsletter to her.

Some time ago, Eddie Hansen dropped her membership with the 99s as she found it more difficult to attend functions. We really miss her - she, also, continues to receive the newsletter. She and Fred both reside in the nursing home at Air Force Village.

The 99s Headquarters newsletter, "Dispatch", (edited by Anna Taylor), available on the 99s website, is now available by e-mail. If you would like to receive it, just e-mail Headquarters at IHQ99s@cs.com. Use "Headquarters Dispatch"in the subject. Lots of good information.

International Conference in New Zealand in 2005 - conference planners asked for the dates during the American Labor Day Weekend. Permission was given. This brought up the question of perhaps scheduling the conference at times other than July. The Mid-Atlantic Section will be hosting the conference in DC in 2006, and is planning for September or October when the weather is not hot and humid.

The On-line 99s Directory is updated once a month, around the 10th. You can make your changes on line - just remember, it's not updated automatically.

Notice in the Minutes that Nancy is encouraging donations to the Endowment Fund. When it reaches $1,000,000, the interest in this fund may be used for Headquarters expenses. This would certainly benefit us by keeping the dues down.

Happy Birthday to Ruth Nichols (Sep 8)! Stella Leis and Pat Wegner are celebrating their 99s Anniversary this month.

Since we didn't have a newsletter last month, suggest you try to find ultra-belated birthday cards for the August birthdays - Alice Foeh, Leslye Doyle, Tessa Dodds, Cheryl Casillas and Margaret Cosby. Happy mega-belated birthday, girls!

Did you hear the joke about the little boy who was chastised because he asked a lady how old she was? So he then asked her, "How much do you weigh?"

Sherry Walker celebrated her 1st 99s anniversary in August and Alice Foeh her 31st.

Accompanying this newsletter are: August Minutes and Schedule of Events replacement page for your Yearbook.
