Return Newsletter pageWe seven gals arrived home safely from the Section Meeting in Santa Fe. Unfortunately, Nancy and Patty didn't get to fly because of the weather here, but drove and brought the wine glasses. All but eight of the glasses were sold, and have more on order from the artist, to complete the sets we need for our chapter members.Nancy will be giving us a report on the business meeting (and Patty took copious notes), but I'll mention a couple of items. Margie Richison had brain surgery and is doing well. She is one of the new directors, but, of course, was not there for installation. Because one of the directors on the slate declined after the ballots were sent out, Kris Irvin appointed Deb Price to fill this vacancy. Jody McCarrell had her usual amusing installation ceremony.
It shouldn't surprise us, but did you know that 82% of the 99s membership is age 40 and over?
Included in the registration packet was a list of the attendees. That's a neat idea. There were 93 registered and scattered through at least 4 hotels.
Also, unfortunately, San Antonio was not the city selected as the host city for the 2007 International Conference. Nancy will elaborate on this at the next meeting.
Our next meeting - October 9 - will be an outing to the downtown Baptist Hospital (111 Dallas Street) to tour the airlift helicopter. Lena has arranged this for us. Please meet in the lobby by 10:15 and Lena will escort us to the helicopter. It is best to park in the hospital garage. Need directions? Call Lena 210-340-5578.
The next Section Meeting will be in Grand Junction April 22-25, 2005. We picked up registration and hotel information and will have some copies at the meeting the 9th. The 99s up there are doing a good job of putting together an interesting Section Meeting at affordable prices. Delta and United do serve Grand Junction from Denver or Salt Lake City and the cost is around $300. It could work out that the girls up there will be able to provide some less expensive transportation from/to Denver. A roundtrip airline from San Antonio to Grand Junction will be around $500.
Margaret Cosby would like a reprieve from Chapter News Reporter. Do Nancy a big favor and volunteer to do this job. We need to be heard in the "Approach" and "The 99s News".
Airmarking at Boerne Stage Airport will be October 26. That's Tuesday morning, when there should be less traffic. Put this on your calendars. See if you can find those old paint-spattered clothes and shoes (it's been a while). Warning: If you don't already have any, be sure and wear whatever can be pitched or kept for next time. If you don't get paint on yourself, someone else will! Sherry and Lena ask that if you have some painting supplies that you'd like to loan, we could use them (we don't try to wash and keep the rollers each time). Also, pans, handles, whatever. Since Sherry Walker has been coordinating this activity for quite some time, if you have any questions, call or e-mail her at 830-336-3653, or sdw519@gvtc.com. All other questions concerning the supplies or future airmarkings, call Airmarking Chairman, Lena Cronk at 210-340-5578.
If you have any suggestions for future meeting sites, give Jo Agee-Housler a call or e-mail: 210-646-7739 or jeveagee4@yahoo.com
Most of our members have access to e-mail and the websites. Sherry Walker keeps our website up-to-date, so check it often for announcements and the very interesting reading of Shannon's experiences as an astronaut trainee. The minutes of our last meeting (the picnic) are posted there, and will be included here as well.
Happy October Birthdays! Ginny McDaniel (3rd) and Pam Crane (24th).
October 99s Anniversaries: Jo Agee-Housler (16 years), Ginny McDaniel (15 years) and Mary Rohrer (has it been a year already??!! Oooh, you must have been having fun!)
See you the 9th and the 26th! - Gloria
