A note from Reni ~The movie Amelia was enjoyable and a good time was had by all last night. We had 22 people show (99s, guests and other pilots) despite the bad weather. Alice Foeh did an excellent job, as always, speaking to the press and audience on behalf of the 99s. We took pictures in front of the huge movie poster we can send to the Approach.
We have 2 parties interested in doing something with our chapter to promote the 99s. Ernie Villarreal of National Public Radio and Eileen Teves of Great Day San Antonio. Ernie was kind enough to air an interview with a few of our members to commemorate our 50th anniversary as a chapter in 2007. He is looking to do a piece for Women's History Month which is in March. Eileen discussed interviewing some of the members at a local airport. She also expressed interest in taking a flight. This should be within the next few weeks.
I will keep you posted of dates and times. All suggestions are welcome.
Those who attended "Amelia" were: Reni Moczygemba, Barbara Moore, Marty Goppert, Terry Hepworth, Winnie Clements, Gloria Blank, Cheryl Casillas, Alice Foeh, Laura Richter, Margaret Cosby, Betty Sue Basham and Patty Taylor.
Did you see (AOPA ePilot) that Amelia's goggles recently sold at auction for $141,600!
* * * * * * * * * Looks like lots of exciting things are happening! Stay tuned, everyone! The next exciting event is our upcoming meeting November 14th at BAZ (New Braunfels Airport) 9:30 AM. We will be sharing the meeting with EAA Chapter 958 and will be hosting the program with Cheryl Casillas and Shaun Maycock presenting "What if - know your airplane".
* * * * * * * * * Christmas party Friday, December 4, 6:30 PM at the home of Marty Goppert. It was decided that, instead of the usual catered large dinner with turkey and trimmings, we would go with pot-luck-style hors d' oeuvres, as heavy or light as you want. And, as usual, you may bring your own alcoholic beverages, but tea, coffee and soft drinks will be furnished. So, along with a food dish, don't forget for each person to bring a gift (around $15) for our game, and especially, bring your family and guests. PLEASE RSVP to Marty - tell her how many are coming in your group and what you are bringing. Home number 830-981-96 Email martyngop@yahoo.com

* * * * * * * * * Had a great time at Section Meeting in Denton. Eight of us attended: Denise Pride, Sherry Walker, Laura Richter, Cheryl Casillas, Jo Agee-Housler, Winnie Clements and Gloria Blank. Our two guests were Ann, Winnie's daughter and Sherri Truitt, Gloria's daughter/Reni's sister. As most of you know, we've been trying to do away with the Travel Award for years and it finally happened, but we still have it because we won the Travel Award the last four Section Meetings. From now on, only paper certificates will be presented for the award. We also inherited the Amelia Bearhart doll again. Denise said it will go with her on her Pilots and Paws trips. Reni will give the highlights of the Section business at our next business meeting. You can also go online to www.scs99s.org and read the minutes.
The next Section Meeting will be in Dallas next spring and then in Ft. Worth next fall. Texas chapters hosted/are hosting four consecutive meetings.
The information on the International Conference in Hawaii is now on the 99s website. It begins on Monday, July 4, 2010. I believe the business meeting is on Wednesday. A little deviation from the norm. Lots and lots of optional trips available.
