Awards Banquet - June 10, 6:00 PM at Gini's Restaurant, 7075 San Pedro. Put this on your calendar now. Youıre not going to want to miss hearing new astronaut, Shannon Walker, who (I think everyone knows) is Sherry Walker's daughter. Nancy will be presenting the Chairman's Pilot-of-the-Year Awards as well as others she wants to recognize.
If you could not attend the last meeting, you missed a great time. Our speaker, Lt. Col. Sandy Miarecki, kept us captivated. We all went to Scenic Loop Cafe afterwards and continued enjoying her stories.
Sherry Walker, Cheryl Casillas and Gloria Blank attended Weekend Wings by TXAA in Galveston this past weekend. Many good seminars - well worth the trip. Unfortunately, an airshow was scheduled the same weekend and the airport was closed during the day. Next year will be better with the flying activities. We took 99s brochures to represent the 99s while there.
Another reminder to let Nancy know of your accomplishments for the Section and Chapter awards.
On a sad note - Ruth Nichols passed on to new horizons April 24th. Several 99s attended the services Friday morning, the 28th. We miss her.
Even though Ruth had to give up flying many years ago, she still was an aviation enthusiast and supporter of the 99s. Up until the last few years, you always saw Ruth at the chapter functions, as well as Section Meetings and International Conferences and other 99s-sponsored activities. She was one of the first I met when I joined the 99s in 1982, and guided me through my first section meeting in Corpus that year, and we spent time together at her last section meeting in Grand Junction, CO. My mind is full of memories of Ruth, but one I must share is my favorite. She loved to tell about her first 99s meeting and how the chapter was due to host the next section meeting. She said she had to join the 99s, because she just had to see how they were going to put on a section meeting with $50 in the bank!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAY BABIES! Barbara Faulk (9th), Faye Makarsky (17th ) Sherry Walker (19th), Dianne Wieman (19th).
99s ANNIVERSARIES in MAY: Ruth Austin (17 years), Alyce Taylor (18 years), Peggy Aguirre (5 years). THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
