SAN ANTONIO CHAPTER 99s
June 2004

First - and most importantly - Tessa Dodds (FWP) is now a Private Pilot!!! Congratulations, Tessa!!

Awards Banquet June 12 at Wah-kee Restaurant, 6:30 Cocktails, 7:00 dinner. followed by the awards and guest speaker, Shannon Walker. Shannon is currently employed at NASA and has been chosen for the 2004 astronaut class. She will start astronaut training June 14th. Wah-kee is located at 18360 Blanco (at 1604), north of 1604 in strip center. You donÕt want to miss this! Let Winnie know if you are attending - 210-496-7612.

We had eight in attendance at the May 8th meeting: Nancy Aldrich, Cheryl Casillas, Jo Agee-Housler, Elizabeth Jordan, Winnie Clements, Barbara Faulk, Margaret Cosby and Gloria Blank.

We decided to postpone the Aerospace Education practice when Sherry Walker could be with more members and us. The meeting was productive (the minutes are attached). Our picnic will be September 11, place TBD, but Leakey is strongly considered.

99 Marty Goppert from eastern U.S. recently moved to Boerne, Texas. And my son-in-law (who most of you know), Monty Truitt, happened to be at the airport when she flew in. Naturally, he inquired if she was a 99 and had a nice visit and recruiting for SAT chapter. Anyway, she called Nancy and indicated she will contact Headquarters to transfer her membership to our chapter. Welcome, Marty. Anxious to meet you!

New Member Booklets (from Headquarters) have been completed and being mailed to every new member. The booklet provides basic information about the 99s. Recruitment and Retention Handbooks have also been completed and being mailed to every chapter chairman. Both are available on the 99s website.

When I was in the Orange County Airport (CA) recently, I noticed the local chapter had a beautiful display on the wall. The background was an aerial photo of the airport and surrounding area, and a collage of pictures about 99s. Great idea!

If you earned your FAA WINGS (any phase) this past fiscal year, please let Nancy know. She is in the process of completing the annual reports for Headquarters and Section (for their Awards Program).

If you plan to attend the International Conference July 6-11 in Atlantic City, please let Nancy know right away.

Weekend Wings in Galveston is next weekend, June 4th and 5th. And itÕs free! The Austin and Houston chapters are participating. (Maybe we need to let Texas Aviation Association know weÕre available too.) When I called the Moody Gardens Hotel last week, they still had a few rooms left at the discounted rate ($159). Lots to offer - Flight Instructors Refresher Clinic (there will be a charge for this), Safety Seminars, WINGS flights, Trade Show, etc. The speaker at the Saturday night banquet will be Al Haynes ($20 prepaid or $25 at the door). The list of seminars is impressive.

The 2004 Fall Section Meeting will be in Santa Fe September 24-26. Put it on your calendar now.

The 2007 International Conference will be held somewhere in the South Central Section. San Antonio is one of the considerations. Gloria and Laura are gathering information boasting San Antonio to send to the committee. WouldnÕt it be neat to have a conference here?!

The June Birthdays are: Peggy Aguirre (3rd), Elizabeth Jordan (22nd) and Stella Leis (24th). H a p p y B i r t h d a y , girls!

99s Anniversaries are: Ruth Nichols (34 years) and Tessa Dodds (2 years). Thanks for hanging in there and contributing so much to the 99s and the San Antonio chapter.

ItÕs Yearbook time again. If you have any corrections, additions, whatever, let me know. What would you like to see on the Schedule of Events? If your husbandÕs name is not listed in the directory, let me know.

Nancy is planning a 49-1/2 Initiation at the Awards Banquet. Please let her know if your 49-1/2 who has not been initiated will be attending. This is going to be a fun evening!

SEE YOU JUNE 12TH.

                                                                                         - Gloria
