Hope everyone is back from vacation, 99s International Convention, Air Race Classic, etc. and ready for some more fun with your sister San Antonio Chapter 99s!Our annual Banquet is being planned by Cheryl Casillas and Reni Moczygemba and they have lots in store for us including Mike McGwin, our guest speaker, awards, door prizes and the initiation of our 49 1/2s who haven't had the pleasure of this yet. Please RSVP to Reni by July 14. Call her at 210-860-2602 or email her at renimoczygemba@hotmail.com or reni@kfernandez.com.
About the 49 1/2 initiation - just some humor in a little ceremony, an oath the guys take. Many of our members have husbands who have not participated in this. So. . . please contact Reni and let her know that your husband will be attending the banquet and will participate in the initiation. It's lots of fun. Assure them they are not joining anything and have no obligation -just please come and enjoy. As always, another 49 1/2 will conduct the ceremony.
About our guest speaker - Mike McGwin is a veteran pilot, who flew helicopters in Vietnam through two tours. He also has flown different fixed wing aircraft. Since the service, he was employed as VP with SAWS for years and also a professor for five years teaching economics. We look forward to hearing about his flying experiences and the PPT of aircraft he has flown.
ADS-B Out Rule Goes Final
On May 28, 2010, FAA published its final rule on ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) Out equipage. This technology allows ATC to track aircraft more accurately and without relying on radar. When combined with ADS-B In it allows pilots and controllers to see the same aircraft position information. "This rule gives the green light for manufacturers to begin building the onboard equipment that will allow our air traffic controllers to know where aircraft are with greater precision and reliability," said FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt. Some of this information is now being broadcast free to aircraft equipped with ADS-B in the Gulf of Mexico, South Florida, and the airspace above Louisville, Philadelphia, and Juneau, Alaska. The nationwide rollout of ADS-B ground stations will be complete in 2013. To learn more about ADS-B and what it means to general aviation check out "Get Ready for ADS-B" in the May/June 2010 issue of FAA Safety Briefing.

The discussion about the legality of poker runs comes and goes, but a member sent me this. Check it out. http://www.capitol.state.tx.us
Just heard that Wright Flyers has moved their operation to Hondo. Hopefully this will free BAZ up for EAA and us.
Just a reminder - chapter dues are $14, payable in June. Since Sherry is going to be out of the country until the latter part of June, wait to send your check to her until then or give it to her at the banquet. If you ever forget whether you paid your chapter dues, she runs a list of those paid on our website http://www.sanantonio99s.org.
