San Antonio Chapter 99s
January 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR

There have been some changes/additions to our January meeting.   It will still be on January 12 at 10 am at the City Terminal at BAZ. This will be a joint meeting between the SA 99s and EAA Chapter 958.   Gary Stamper will give us a briefing on the new FAA Wings Program at 10am, followed by an opportunity to fly a simulator (provided by the EAA Chapter).   Our business meeting will follow the presentation and simulator.   Lunch will be at Clear Springs Restaurant in New Braunfels following the meeting.

This will be an opportunity to interact with other area pilots and a chance to fly a simulator. Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there.   It is also an opportunity to get to fly to a meeting. ~ Kay Renfrow

If you missed the Christmas Party, you were missed!!!   Thirty of us had a wonderful time.   Patty honored the new licensed pilots with certificates, gifts and lots of fun and pictures.   Denise Pride was showing off her Private Pilot license she had just received in the mail from the FAA.   Our new "passed-her-checkride" pilots are:   Denise Pride, Kay Renfrow, Reni Moczygemba and Jenny Benjamin.   The gift game was loads of fun, as usual.   The Club at Lackland treated us very nicely and we would not hesitate to have a function there again.   Thanks to Stella and Sherry for making the arrangements, etc. and Patty for the pretty centerpieces and hosting our event.

There is a very good safety seminar coming this month, January 23, 7-9:00 PM at the San Antonio Hilton, 611 NW Loop 410.   The seminar is free, but parking will be $5.00.   It is sponsosred by AOPA ASF;   Topic "Top 5 mistakes pilots make".   If you received the mailout, take the card with you for a drawing for a handheld nav/com.

Sherry has moved the Minutes to the Members Only section of our website.   She has also added two more files to the Members Only section, the 99s annaversaries and the birthdays (day only, no year) of members.   Check it out.   If you don't recall the ID and password, call Sherry.

Bay City Chapter has forwarded 22 proposed By-Law amendments to the International By-Laws Committee.   Thought you might like to see them.   They came to me as separate attachments and I incorporated them into one.   Will be interesting to see what the actual proposals will be at the conference.   Have no clue what other chapters and sections have submitted. [Note from Webmaster---they will not be put on the Internet.   They were sent out as a separate file with the Newsletter.]

This might not be new to most of you, but I found it helpful: To convert to Fahrenheit from Celsius: Double the Celsius, subtract the first number, then add 32.     Example: 15 degrees Celsius x 2 = 30, subtract 3 = 27, add 32 = 59.

SEE YOU ALL AT THE MEETING JANUARY 12TH !
