Wow! 2005 already! Happy New Year everybody and do have a great year! Most important! Many, many thanks to Barbara and Jack Moore for hosting the Chapter Christmas Party. It was a marvelous evening. As well as celebrating the season, we celebrated Nancy's birthday, Cheryl's new job and Reni's first solo. We enjoyed our gift exchange game and sang some Christmas songs - oh, did I mention all that delicious food!! Oh, and that bottle of Chardonnay I finally stole - it just happens to be with a personalized label, 99s logo and all! (Sorry, Max and Cheryl.)
Our first meeting in 2005 will be January 13, 6:00 PM at Jim's Coffee Shop, 9950 San Pedro (San Pedro at Ramsey - about .7 mile north of Loop 410). Since this is a Thursday evening meeting, we hope to see some members who aren't able to make the Saturday meetings.
Just a reminder - the Zonta Dinner is January 19, 5:30 PM cocktails, 6:30 dinner. Petroleum Club, Energy Building (top floor). 8620 N. New Braunfels. From Loop 410, turn north on Broadway and right on Cheever to N. New Braunfels. The building is right there. The cost is generally about $20 and you pay at the door. They will need a headcount, so please call or e-mail Jo Agee-Housler at 210-646-7739 or jeveagee4@yahoo.com by January 14th.
The speaker is a flight instructor and he will be bringing a student with him. Sounds interesting!
The San Antonio Tower Tour is tentatively set for February 12.
Received this information from Alice Foeh and Nancy said we can make it our April meeting. We'll discuss this at the meeting January 13.
"Sky Girls" will be played from March 18 through April 17, 2005. An inspiring story of 5 WWII flyers in training to become WASPS (Women's US Air Force Service Pilots). Set in 1944 at Avenger Field in dusty, windy Sweetwater, TX, the final WASP trainee class battles possible internal sabotage, media/frenzy, public concern and the prejudices of a male-centered Congress in their quest to earn their wings. This play is powerful, human, important, humorous and historic. Live theatre at San Pedro Playhouse in San Pedro Springs Park, 800 West Ashby, San Antonio. Box Office 210-733-7258. FAX 210-734-2651. E-mail: info@sanpedroplayhouse.com
"I think it would be fun to go as a group, perhaps on a Friday or Saturday night or on Sunday to a matinee." - Alice Foeh
In case you haven't heard, EAA's SWRFI is being moved to Hondo. So put May 13-15 on your calendar. Maybe we'll try again to have a sales booth.
Also, again TXAA is sponsoring the Gulf Coast Wings Weekend in Galveston. It will be held June 3 & 4 and I'm sure TXAA would be glad if we volunteered to help out.
Interesting tidbit about Addison Airport. Seems they received Airport Improvement Funds and the pilots are complaining the grant was misspent. They built a concrete plant and gave an incentive half million dollars to a corporate tenant to build a new hangar. (Then increased the hangar rental fees.) The FAA said they didn't violate any federal rules. AOPA stepped in and agreed with the pilots and asked the FAA to conduct a new audit. AOPA is optimistic that the FAA will reverse the original findings.
TXAA is dedicated to preserving and promoting aviation within the state of Texas. The dues are $20/year (in case you are interested).
How 'bout that beautiful plane Cheryl will be flying! She will be leaving for class on January 2nd, and doesn't know yet if she will even have a couple days home during the next six weeks. We are so excited about her new flying job with SkyWest, but with mixed emotions - those especially who have been training with her.
Winnie and Bob Clements are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house on January 29 from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM. No gifts, but please bring a dish to share. Everyone is invited. Their address is: 13518 Dutch Myrtle, San Antonio, TX 78232. Directions: Turn east on Bitters off Hwy 281. Turn left on Heimer. Turn right on Perennial. Go one long block and turn left on Dutch Myrtle. It's the 5th house on the right.
Attached with this newsletter is the Chapter By-Law changes proposal. These will be voted on during the February Chapter meeting. Please bring your By-Laws with you to the January meeting for review and discussion.
More information about the Section Meeting in Grand Junction. Walker Field Airport is currently served by America West Express, Mesa Airlines, Delta Connections/Skywest, Frontier Airlines, Great Lakes Airlines and United Express Skywest.
The Cabaret Dinner Theatre in Grand Junction will be showing "The Pajama Game". Tickets for Thursday nights are $32.50. If we get a group of 12 or more, the price is $27.50. Judy Allerheiligen highly recommends the theatre. So, if you are planning to travel on Thursday, you might want to consider a fun evening out. At this time, I don't know, but expect that we will have to reserve ahead of time. More later.
World War II B-17 "Memphis Belle", in the Memphis, Tennessee area since 1946, will be relocated to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB following restoration efforts.
Attached is the January "Headquarters Dispatch". It includes the revised New Member Application and Fact Sheet because of the sport pilot certificate.
