San Antonio Chapter 99s
December 2006

Many thanks to Patty Taylor for having the group in her home for our November meeting. The film, "Wings of Their Own", was great (thanks to Sherry for bringing it) and the visiting was fun. Those attending were: Patty Taylor, Denise Pride, Terry Hepworth, Kay Wells, Margaret Cosby, Gloria Blank, Carol Levine, Alice Foeh, Kay Renfrow, Nancy Aldrich, Cheryl Casillas, Laura Richter and Sherry Walker. Nancy held a brief meeting. Our secretary, Winnie, was not present, but Nancy's notes follow: We talked about the Christmas party. We discussed having Kay Wells make us some shirts - so we need all the artistic gals to come up with designs. Nancy talked about her visit to Headquarters during the Board meeting to discuss the 49-1/2 issue. Apparently this is not something that requires International concern as it is not in the By-laws or any other governing part of the 99s. Therefore, decisions and titles will be done at the chapter level. Nancy says, "Please remind everyone to mark their calendars for Journalist Julie Boatman's visit at our January meeting. We get a real celebrity!"

No regular meeting in December. Our Christmas party is scheduled for December 16 and the details and directions are attached with this newsletter.

Our January meeting will be held on the 13th. You've enjoyed Julie Boatman's articles in the AOPA Pilot magazine - now you can meet her in person, as we are fortunate to have her as our guest. El Matador (formerly Margarita's) in Boerne at 11:00 AM. Luncheon meeting in the private room. We may order from the menu. Limited seating (50 max), so please RSVP to Gloria at 830-815-1038 or e-mail at luv2fly@ktc.com Invite your aviation (or non-aviation) friends and let's have a big support for Julie.

Cookbook Report #5 from Sherry Walker:

"Greetings all you San Antonio 99s members! The cookbook is coming along just fine. I have received many, many recipes from 14 different chapter members. This year, we have had 24 members that have paid their dues. This means that I only need to hear from 10 more members to get everyone listed in our cookbook. My goal is to have everyone in our chapter represented somewhere - everybody will have contributed something.

So you don't cook . . . can you write? This is a fun and whimsical cookbook, and it will have a few jokes and short stories in it also. I have received one short story so far and that is exciting. If you have any story at all that relates to flying and food, let's hear it. I need stories that will be no longer than a page, so don't get carried away and write a book. (And it doesnąt have to be the absolute truth - just make up something.) The cookbook, as it has progressed so far, will be available for viewing at this year's Christmas party."

"There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are. "                                                                                                                                             ~ American Flyways November 2006 issue
