San Antonio Chapter 99s
April 2007

We've had two meetings since the last newsletter. We needed the extra Poker Rally/Safety Seminar planning meeting and did accomplish a lot. So, we'll begin with an update on the Poker Rally.

So far, the following organizations have been sent information: AOPA, TXAA, South Central Section 99s, Austin 99s.

The poker hands may be purchased at Boerne Stage or Kerrville at a donation of $10 each.

Boerne Stage and Kerrville will be staffed 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, Fredericksburg, up to 12:45 PM, as the hands must be turned in by 12:45. The announcement of the winners of the Poker Hands, Raffles and Door Prizes will be made just prior to the Safety Seminar. There was some discussion about all the prizes being made after the seminar, to force everyone to stay. We're not going to make friends and influence new members by forcing people to stay when they can't, or even don't want to.

The staff at the airports will be:

Boerne Stage: Cheryl Casillas and Terry Hepworth (9:00 - 11:30 AM)

Kerrville: Winnie Clements and Jo Agee-Housler (9:00 - 11:30 AM)

Fredericksburg: Alice Foeh, Betty Sue Basham and Nancy (9:00 - 12:45). Will need more. We'll be selling the final poker card, selling raffle tickets ($1 each or 6 for $5), handing out the tickets for the door prizes, and ensuring everyone signs in. Nancy will be greeting those arriving and directing them.

We will need 10 decks of cards, which are going to be donated by: Alice Foeh, Sherry Walker and Marty Goppert. Bring to the April 14th meeting.

Each airport staff will also need a stapler, red pen and sheets for the cards (Gloria will bring sheets). Also, bottles of water will be available at each airport free of charge. (Reni will bring the water.) Staffs at Boerne and Kerrville will take $10 bills for change; at Fredericksburg, ones, fives and tens will be needed.

We should have appreciation certificates for the following: Boerne Stage, Kerrville and Fredericksburg airports, and the hotel at Fredericksburg (especially, since we are using the meeting room with the fee waived!).

We will need signs (or staff) at the airport directing the planes to the hangar.

Reni has received the following donations:

One certificate for a flight physical ($75 value) donated by Dr. Armstrong (to raffle)
2 cases of Aeroshell Oil (to be raffled - each case separately)
$50 gift certificate to The Pilot Shoppe (to be raffled)
Gift certificate for Schilos German Deli Restaurant (door prize)
100 bottles of water (1/3 to each airport - free to the pilots) donated by HEB

We need more door prizes. Ladies, Reni needs your help!!

Nancy wrote an article about Michael Cosby and submitted it to the South Central Section magazine. Look for it in the next edition of the "Approach" (Fall 2007). She also submitted it to the "99 News" magazine (International) as well. Michael has offered his expertise in other topics we'd like, as well as teach a survival course. How generous of him! Yes!

NEXT MEETING APRIL 14, 2007, 10 am AT THE HOME OF DENISE PRIDE. DIRECTIONS ATTACHED. Bring your minutes and notes about the Poker Rally. Supplies will be distributed and final discussions - this is our last meeting before the event! However, all decisions that have been published/distributed to the aviation community cannot be changed. PLEASE attend this important meeting. Also, presentation of the slate of our new officers and enjoy our speaker, who happens to be Denise!

A motion will be made at the April meeting to accept the slate as presented by the Nominating Committee if there is only one name for each office (uncontested ballot), which is called "declaration by acclamation". This would eliminate the need for ballots. This procedure will most probably be adopted by International and Section, so to be less restrictive, we would need to change our By-Laws accordingly. However, until that is accepted, the ballot is below and if you do not return the ballot, it is assumed you are voting for the proposed slate. The office of Treasurer is not an elected position.

Nancy will not be attending the April meeting, but left Gloria a few RAFFLE TICKETS for $1,500 toward registration, hotel and transportation to the International Conference in Boulder in September. This is sponsored by the Endowment Fund Trustees, so the donations will go in the endowment fund. Donation $10 a ticket. If you plan to attend the conference, you might like to take a chance to win the $1,500 and be making a donation also. See Gloria at the meeting for a ticket.

Safety article attached, submitted by Cheryl Casillas.

See you at the April 14th meeting!
