San Antonio Chapter 99s
April 2006

Next meeting - April 8, 10 AM in Sherry Walker's hangar at Boerne Stage Airfield. Bring your copy of the "Approach" with the proposed By-law and SOP changes. We are very fortunate to have Lt. Col. Sandy Miawrecki, Air Force Test Pilot, as our guest. Sandy joined the Antelope Valley 99s in 1999. Let's have a great turnout for Sandy, and "thank you" to Pam Crane for putting us together.

WEEKEND WINGS in Galveston - April 29-30. So far, Cheryl Casillas, Sherry Walker, Gloria Blank and possibly Alice Foeh plan to attend. Please let Gloria know if you plan to go - some of the Austin girls may go and if we get enough, we can reserve a table at the banquet.

Section meeting in Wichita, KS. - May 19-21.

International Conference - Washington, D. C. So far, those going are: Nancy Aldrich, Gloria Blank, Reni and Roger Moczygemba, Sherry Walker, Margaret Cosby, Stella and Ray Leis, Cheryl and Max Casillas, Winnie Clements and Lena Cronk. Our group is growing. We are going to have FUN!

Nancy will be selling her books at the Conference. She is reserving the table (at her own expense) under our Chapter name (much less than for individuals) and donating $1 for each book sold to our chapter. How about that! She will also have some at the chapter meeting and will be sending some to Wichita with Sherry Walker.

The bio on Marty Goppert was sent to the e-group, but is enclosed with this newsletter for the mailed ones. Fascinating lady. She has promised she will speak at one of our meetings about her exciting demonstrations in flight. We look forward to it.

Here it is April Fool's Day (and daylight savings time) and June 1st is right around the corner. That means it is soon time to pay the chapter dues. They are only $12 a year and we do have expenses and donations to meet, even though many of our chapter expenses are donated by generous members.

The March 2006 issue of the "Headquarters Dispatch" is attached.

Nancy will be completing the South Central Section Awards Form the end of May. A copy of this report is in the spring issue of the "Approach". Please look it over and let Nancy know of your accomplishments (especially if you have participated in the FAA Wings Program. Important - every one: Let Nancy know if you have flown during the last 12 months - she needs that information, too). Even though only a few members might have participated in aviation events, seminars, etc., if it was to represent the chapter, it will be counted. Also, Nancy needs the same information from you for her Pilot of the Year Awards - which she will present at the Awards Banquet.

Updated year book pages will be available at the Awards Banquet in June. PLEASE let me know if you have any changes for the directory, so hopefully, they will be up-to-date.

The March Minutes are attached. Even though the minutes indicate the members would rather delay the Altitude Chamber date, I believe some are signed up to go April 21. Check with Cheryl Casillas or Patty Taylor.

Most of you know, but it needs to be repeated. Our long-time (36 years) member, Ruth Nichols, has cancer of the back and spine. She is under strong pain medication, but I bet she would appreciate your cards. Her address is (so you won't have to look it up in your year book directory): 226 Cavalier, SAT 78225. Sometimes she's in the Nix Hospital and sometimes at home. Call her home phone and Carol (her daughter) will answer. I called Ruth at the hospital and even though she appreciated it, I believe it was tiring for her, so I kept it short.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE APRIL GALS: Marty Goppert (2nd), Marcia Wesser (9th), Ruth Austin (13th), Linda Stovall (15th), Alice Taylor (16th), Lena Cronk (25th) and Patty Taylor (25th).

99s ANNIVERSARIES: Sharon Homuth (15 years), Linda Stovall (15 years) and Lena Cronk (18 years). Thank you for your continued support!!

Ripley's believe it or not - "Following the 1931 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade , Aviator Clarence Chamberlain flew through the streets of New York and snared a huge pig balloon to collect a $25 prize!"

SEE YOU AT THE MEETING APRIL 8, 10 AM IN SHERRY WALKER'S HANGAR AT BOERNE STAGE AIRFIELD!!
