San Antonio Chapter 99s
April 2005

We will have our regular meeting on April 9 beginning at 10:00 AM at the Mooney Plant at Kerrville Airport. Gretchen Jahn will be our speaker and will be telling us about her Air Race Around New Zealand. This should be a great meeting, and I certainly hope we can have a really good turnout. Those of you who can fly, pray for flying weather and we can all fly into ERV for the meeting!!!

Having seen the play, "Sky Girls", last Friday night, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it. The acting is OK, but the script is not!! The language is very bad, and it is not very representative of what the WASPS actually did. A couple of the WASPS who were there walked out at intermission and the ones I spoke with were not pleased. I said to one, "I cannot express how much respect I have for you." And her response was, "I cannot express how much I dislike this play!" She then left the theatre! All of them had comments like, "we were not like that" or "that's not how it was."

Having asked all those who were in attendance on Friday night, the consensus seems to be that we do not want to go back. Therefore, I am going to ask Jo to contact one of the WASPS and see if she will speak to us during one of our gatherings.

Our thanks and appreciation to Sherry Walker for hosting the March chapter meeting in her hangar at Boerne Stage Airfield. It was a great meeting and we accomplished a lot of business. The amended chapter By-Laws will be distributed to all chapter members with the new Yearbooks during our June Installation/Awards Banquet. Jo and Winnie are searching for a restaurant for this event and will have that information for us soon.

Those attending the meeting were: Winnie Clements, Nancy Aldrich, Jo Agee-Housler, Ann Auld, Sherry Walker, Shannon Walker, Peggy Aguirre, Elizabeth Jordan, Margaret Cosby, Susan Robinson, Marsha Copeland, Carol Ames, Gloria Blank, Reni Moczygemba and Laura Richter.

Gulf Coast Wings Weekend - June 3 & 4.   The speakers for the Banquet Saturday evening will be John and Martha King of King Schools. Would be fun to get a group together to fly/drive to the event.

EAA SWRFI in Hondo May 13 - 15.

The FCC is conducting studies about the use of cellphones on airplanes. Currently, the FCC bans the use of cellphones once the aircraft leaves the ground.

Most of you have met our new FWP (Future Woman Pilot) member. Ann Auld has joined the 99s and the San Antonio Chapter. Please add her information to your chapter directory. Her address is P.O. Box 801, Leakey, TX 78873. Phone numbers are: (H & W) 830-232-5050, (C) 830-278-7361. Welcome aboard, Ann.

Nancy asked me to address the attendance issue in this newsletter. Although we have many loyal, sustaining members in our chapter, there are some we rarely see. So, we need to know what the reasons are. For instance, they may work on the meeting days; not interested in the planned activity; too busy with other organizations, etc.; the meeting place/time is not convenient; or a myriad of reasons. In any case, we would like to know. We are getting new members all the time and we want to keep them!! Please, just take a moment to e-mail (luv2fly@ktc.com) or call (830-815-1038) me with your response. Thank you.
                                                                                                                                            Gloria
